Pumps & Pipes 1

Introducing a unique collaborative initiative between Houston's largest industries, the healthcare and petrochemical industries, designed to explore potential crossover ideas and technologies. Much like moving oil through a pipeline, the heart must pump blood through vessels. The aim of this one-day conference is to stimulate discussion, spark ideas, and explore synergies between these industries that face similar challenges in imaging, navigation, metallurgy, fluid dynamics, robotics and remote monitoring.

Plone is a content management framework used to manage websites. TLC2 is an advocate of open-source software and pleased to help support this free conference.

XIVth International Workshop on Quantum Atomic and Molecular Tunneling in Solids and other Condensed Phases

The hallmark of this workshop has been its highly cross-disciplinary nature, which includes work on tunneling of protons and heavier species in condensed phases in general, including biological systems, chemical reactions, transport phenomena in solids, etc. Experimental and theoretical aspects of the role of quantum atomic and molecular tunneling phenomena will form the main theme of the workshop.

On October 26, student groups will converge on the Ranch for a one-day blowout featuring fun activities and presentations to help them develop a better appreciation of biodiversity, conservation and the sciences.

Dr. Tammy Tolar will present her research on “A Cognitive Model Of Algebra Achievement Among Undergraduate College Students” on Oct 24, 2007, at the Texas Institute for Measurement, Evaluation and Statistics (TIMES). Dr. Tolar is a post doctoral researcher at TIMES working on cognitive processes in math.

Mars Rover Celebration, a UH educational program to increase students' interest in science and technology by building a mock-up of a Mars Rover model, will be featured at the Space2007 conference organized by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Dr. Edgar Bering will present a teacher workshop on how the Mars Rover Celebration can be started in cities across the country.

Python Boot Camp

TLC2 will host the Python Unconference for the Texas Region. This is a free event to support the open source community and provide a forum for participants to share their experiences and developments. The content of the 'unconference' will be largely driven by the needs and participation of attendees from the development community.

DRAGON Workshop

This two-day workshop provides attendees with a working knowledge of how to design and deploy a GMPLS-based dynamic circuit services network. The workshop will provide an overview of GMPLS architecture, RSVP and OSPF protocols, control plane design concepts, and specifics of dynamic circuit services network engineering as relates to campus, regional, and national network facilities in the R&E community.

Mars Rover Teacher Workshop

Teachers and leaders from community organizations are invited to attend the Mars Rover Teacher Workshop on September 8 from 9 am to 12 noon in Philip G. Hoffman Hall Room 232, TLC2's high tech multimedia classroom built with funding from NASA. Mars Rover 2008 is an exciting educational opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience building a model of a Mars Rover.

Cluster Seminar

TLC2 will host a tutorial session for Atlantis cluster users. This tutorial will focus on how to compile programs and run jobs via torque/maui on the newly upgraded Atlantis. There will also be updates on the new visualization environment. A few short presentations will be given followed by a Q & A session. Lunch will be provided.
