  • TLC2Cluster Seminar

    TLC2 will host a tutorial session for cluster users at 11:30 on Friday, February 8, 2008 in Room 232 of Philip G. Hoffman Hall. This tutorial will focus on how to compile programs and run jobs via torque/maui on the newly upgraded Atlantis. There will also be updates on the new visualization environment. The session will consist of a few short presentations and Q&A.

  • TLC2 Distinguished Lecture Series

    TLC2 is pleased to welcome Dr. Bob Jones, EGEE Project Director at CERN, as part of the Distinguished Lecturer Series. Dr. Jones will make a presentation on "Science on the Grid" on Feb. 22 at 11:00 am in Hoffman Hall, Room 232. His presentation will highlight the multi-disciplinary applications and international nature of the EU’s EGEE project to create large scale computational resources.

  • Mars Rover Celebration at AIAA Space Conference
    February 26-28, 2008, Denver, CO
    The TLC2-sponsored Mars Rover Celebration, an educational program developed at UH for grades 3-8, was featured at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Space Exploration Conference and Exhibition in Denver from February 26-28. Visiting teachers and students learned how to start Mars Rover Celebration program in their schools and community organizations.

  • Houston's Presidential Summit

    The University of Houston's research initiatives to improve energy sources and security were highlighted at the Houston's Presidential Summit on February 28, 2008. UH President Dr. Renu Khator will moderate a discussion panel and UH will have a booth with additional information. The TLC2-affiliated Mission-Oriented Seismic Research Program (M-OSRP) is among the many diversified energy initiatives at UH. TLC2 provided the booth, printing and logistical support for the event.

  • Plone Symposium East 2008
    March 10-13, 2008, Penn State
    Josten Ma, TLC2's Application Solutions Manager, spoke at the Plone Symposium East 2008 held March 10-13 at Penn State. TLC2 is an advocate of the advantages the open-source Plone content management system. Mr. Ma delivered a speech entitled, "Successful Ingredients: How Plone worked well at the University of Houston".

  • Movement of Nothingness conference
    April 4-5, 2008, TLC2 Room 232
    The Texas Learning and Computation Center is pleased to host the Movement of Nothingness conference on April 4-5. The interdisciplinary conference will explore the theological and philosophical perspectives of "nothingness". Speakers for the free, open-to-the-public event include some of the most noted names in their fields, including Thomas J.J. Altizer.

    The Texas Learning and Computation Center invites you to attend the Research Seminar Series, held on the second Friday of each month this spring. Dr. Ronald H.W. Hoppe, UH Mathematics Dept, will discuss his research into "Modeling, Simulation and Optimization of Surface Acoustic Wave Driven Microfluidic Biochips".

  • Applications Performance Characterizations on the SiCortex Architecture

    SiCortex made a presentation on "Applications Performance Characterizations on the SiCortex Architecture" on Wednesday, April 16, in TLC2's Multimedia Seminar. The "lunch and learn" session focused on running applications on the SiCortex architecture, an area of interest to researchers with high performance computing needs. The featured speaker was Matt Reilly, the company's Chief Engineer and one of its founders. The event was free and open to the public.
