Hurricane Rita Aftermath

The University of Houston fared well through Hurricane Rita. We are remaining closed the beginning of this week to ensure that our students, faculty and staff can return to the Houston area safely. President Gogue and the Emergency Management team have worked to identify services that are needed prior to staff returning on Wednesday afternoon and classes resuming on Thursday. The following is an update to our previous messages:

Residential Students
--------------------
University of Houston students, including special needs students, living in dorms and university apartments may begin returning to campus today, Monday, September 26, 2005, beginning at noon for all housing units except Cambridge Oaks, which will be open at 5 p.m. today. However, Bayou Oaks is currently without water and alarm systems and therefore students will not be able to move back into that facility until repairs can be concluded. Bayou Oaks students should contact 713-747-3834 for updates and we will send a notification to students as soon as we have a time for Bayou Oaks re-opening. You must be prepared to present your student ID to security when you return to your building.

All Students
------------
All classes will resume on Thursday, September 29, 2005.
Announcements will be made later about make-up plans for the missed classes.

Staff
-----
Staff should return to their offices at noon on Wednesday, September 28, if at all possible to make ready for Thursday classes. You may return to your office earlier if you have your staff ID to show security.

Faculty
-------
Faculty may return to their buildings and labs prior to the start of classes on Thursday. You must also have your faculty ID available to show security.

Services
--------
Food service will be available at Oberholtzer Hall Cafeteria for all residential students, faculty and staff who are on campus as of noon on Monday. Moody Towers cafeteria will begin service at 5 p.m. Monday evening. You may pay with your food card if you have a food plan or with cash if you do not.

The M.D. Anderson Library will be open Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Wednesday beginning at 12 noon with regular hours for the rest of the week. Electronic access to the library should be available by late Monday afternoon.

Mail service will resume on Wednesday afternoon.

The Charter School will resume classes on Thursday morning.

The Child Care Center will resume operation on Wednesday at noon.

President Gogue and the University administration wish those driving back to Houston a very safe trip.
