Welcome to the TLC2 hurricane preparedness and information page.

Document Actions
We are currently monitoring the progress of Hurricane Rita and will be adding content and information as the storm progresses.

Based on the current information, it has been determined that staff members who reside in an area that has been designated for mandatory evacuation are on emergency leave effective immediately for Wednesday through Saturday. Faculty members who live in mandatory evacuation areas should notify their department chair if they need to cancel classes on Wednesday and notify their students if at all possible.

Other staff members who believe they are in areas that are not under mandatory evacuation but believe they could be seriously affected should contact their supervisors about emergency leave for Wednesday.

We will notify everyone as early as possible on Wednesday if the university is going to announce closure for Thursday and/or Friday.

Meanwhile all personnel should secure their computer data and back up the servers and hard drives. If your data is maintained on the central servers, IT is backing up that data and securing it away from the Hurricane area by IT. Arrangements are in place with Texas Tech to serve as our backup website for emergency communication. You will be able to access that through www.uh.edu, and if our Houston server fails, you will be automatically routed to the remote server for information. Please review the emergency plans document on www.uh.edu/emergency for specific suggestions on data backup and other ways to prepare for a Hurricane.

Be sure and check your e-mail tomorrow for the next update. We also will post information on the web. This will be the primary way that we will continue to communicate with the university community during this emergency period.

Keep checking back for news and information.
