Community Outreach: Web portal training

Document Actions
TLC2 will offer web portal training to the Acres Homes community on August 6 in Room 200 from 3 until 5. The training session is an integral part in TLC2 support to help the neighborhood construct a web site that increases community communication and resources. This initiative is in partnership with Houston HOPE.

One of the purposes of this website is to create a line of communication among Acres Homes residents. It will also provide information to people who are interested in living or conducting business in the community. The Acres Homes website will showcase community events, organizations, community groups, and projects. Information will be presented in an entertaining and user-friendly manner. Residents will form working committees to manage the website updates and content.

The Acres Homes website will serve as a model for the creation of community web portals for the remaining six Houston HOPE neighborhoods.

An official roll-out of the site is expected in September 2007, with a celebration being held at the Acres Homes Multi Service Center located at 6719 W. Montgomery. City, civic and UH leaders will be present at the event. A launch date will be announced in the media.

The web portal training will teach community participants how to build and maintain web sites using the open source Plone Content Management System. Plone is a valuable tool for the community since it provides easy-to-build websites using software at no cost.
