Mars Rover launched at Space 2007 conference
Mars Rover Celebration, an educational program to increase students' interest in science and technology by building a mock-up of a Mars Rover model, was featured at the Space2007 conference organized by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Dr. Edgar Bering presented a teacher workshop on how the Mars Rover Celebration can be started in cities across the country.
What: Mars Rover Celebration at Space2007 conference
When: 18-20 September 2007
Where: Long Beach Convention Center, Long Beach, CA
Mars Rover Celebration is designed for primary (Grades 3-5) and middle school (Grades 6-8) students interested in science and engineering. Students participate in the design and construction of a model of a Mars Rover to carry out a specific science mission on the surface of Mars. The model is mostly a mock-up, constructed at a minimal cost (estimated cost of less than $10-$25) of mostly found objects and simple art supplies.
The teacher workshop covered the details of the celebration, accompanying curricula, and proven methodologies for introducing and supervising the projects. Teachers participating in the workshop were provided with a set of curriculum materials, both paper and electronic, one solar model kit and Website addresses for obtaining more information.
