TLC2 hosts seminar on Application Performance on SiCortex
SiCortex will make a presentation on "Applications Performance Characterizations on the SiCortex Architecture" on Wednesday, April 16, in TLC2's Multimedia Seminar. The "lunch and learn" session will focus on running applications on the SiCortex architecture, an area of interest to researchers with high performance computing needs. The featured speaker will be Matt Reilly, the company's Chief Engineer and one of its founders. The event is free and open to the public.

Abstract
High Performance Technical Computing isn't just for the lunatic fringe
anymore: the spectacular advances in microprocessor design during the
1990's and the rise of the Linux cluster, made supercomputing
practical for small research groups as well as giant organizations.
The Linux cluster architecture has now moved beyond the simple lashed
together assembly of PCs that made it possible.
SiCortex is building a new breed of high performance computing systems
built on a simple proposition: The future of high performance
computing is in high processor count computing. As the industry shifts
its focus from "faster cores" to "multi cores," system designers and
application developers must consider more than raw FLOPS and serial
benchmarks -- communication performance is key to applying large
ensembles of processors to a single problem.
Matt Reilly's talk will briefly review where we are, how we got here,
and where technology is likely to take us. Then we'll talk about what
we do next.
About Matt Reilly
Matt Reilly received a BSEE from Virginia Tech, and an MSEE and
PhD from Carnegie-Mellon University. He was a member of the Alpha
microprocessor design team at Digital Equipment and Compaq before
founding SiCortex with Jud Leonard and John Mucci.
Matt is Chief Engineer at SiCortex and led the chip architecture team
for the SC5832 system.
