Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp July 24-27, 2003
The Texas Learning and Computation Center played host to local middle-school students during the summer of 2003. The Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp is a two-week summer residential camp held at the University of Houston that gives approximately 45 rising sixth through eighth-grade students the opportunity to enhance their proficiency in mathematics and science. Students lived in dormitories on the University of Houston campus and attended daily educational experiences in natural science, engineering, mathematics and technology. Activities included classroom study, experiments, individual/team/group projects, weekly field excursions and guest speakers who motivated the students into fulfilling their dreams. TLC2 added to their science exposure with a tour of the visualization lab and presentations of current research projects occurring at the center. The program, which was founded in 1994, is sponsored by The Harris Foundation, the University of Houston, the Houston Independent School District and The Gill Foundation.
