Hector H. Rivera brings a background in developmental psychology and methodologies to his work at the University of Houston’s (UH) Department of Psychology, as well as the Texas Institute for Measurement, Evaluation and Statistics (TIMES), an affiliate of the Texas Learning and Computation Center (TLC2).
Dr. Rivera’s research examines community involvement in social context. He is interested in using psychological research to assist communities—school communities, neighborhood communities, or ethnic communities—in developing their capacities for well-being for current and future generations across multiple social contexts. Dr. Rivera is also working with longitudinal data sets to explore issues pertaining to research in social context, particularly among Hispanic and Native American communities.
Through his work, Dr. Rivera contributes to the mission of TIMES (the Texas Institute for Measurement, Evaluation and Statistics), which aims to improve the behavioral, psychological, educational and developmental outcomes of children and adults through the development and application of advanced measurement, evaluation, and statistical research methods.
He holds a PhD in psychology from the University of California at Santa Cruz.
