Director, Houston Area Technology Advancement Center (HATAC)
Charles Shomper became vice chancellor of Information Technology and vice president of Information Technology for the University of Houston (UH) in October of 1998. He is the first person to hold the joint position.
Mr. Shomper's association with higher education and experience in the field of computer technology spans more than 30 years. In 1992, as a result of a national search, he was selected to be UH's associate vice president for Information Technology. Previously, he worked in information technology for several universities across the U.S.
Mr. Shomper has held various management positions and served on numerous task forces, committees, and boards during his career. He is also an adjunct professor with UH's Bauer College of Business.
Responsible for all aspects of UH's information technology support operations, Mr. Shomper is a member of the Chancellor/President's Cabinet, the System Executive Group and serves as the System Chief Information Officer Council chair. He holds a BMath degree from Iowa State University and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Iowa.
