Assistant professor, Department of Mathematics
Jiwen He is assistant professor with the University of Houston's (UH) Department of Mathematics. He is also is a founding member of the UH Air Quality Modeling Center, formed by a team of scientists from the faculties of chemistry, mathematics and chemical engineering to analyze air quality in the Greater Houston area and to work with national, state, and local leaders to provide solutions for Houston's air quality problem.
Dr. He is part of the New Atmospheric Air Quality Simulator and Application to Daily Ozone Forecasting project. The study, funded by the Environmental Protection Agency, is devoted to the development of a performance-portable multi-scale air quality modeling system to simulate various chemical and physical processes that are important for understanding atmospheric trace gas transformations and distributions.
In addition to his research and teaching duties with UH, Dr. He is currently involved with the design and implementation of graduate courses for a new program in Environmental Science and Engineering, developed jointly by the UH Main Campus, the UH Clear Lake Campus, and the Environmental Institute of Houston.
Dr. He has contributed to journals and industry conferences worldwide, and is mentor to a number of undergraduate, master's degree and post-graduate students. He holds a PhD in mathematics from the University of Paris VI.
