Professor, Biochemical and Biophysical Sciences
In addition to his role as professor of Chemical Engineering and professor of Biochemical and Biophysical Sciences at the University of Houston (UH), Richard Willson is an avid researcher. His work with biomolecular structures and molecular diagonostics holds valuable applications for the medicinal and pharmaceutical industries, particularly in terms of targeting major illnesses.
Dr. Willson’s career has earned him a number of awards, including the Van Lanen Award from the American Chemical Society and the UH Senior Faculty Research Excellence Award. A member of the Institute for Molecular Design—a Texas Learning and Computation Center (TLC2) affiliate—Dr. Willson is also part of the Council on Chemical Research (CCR) Vision 2020 Roadmap Committee on Bioprocessing, and the UH Intellectual Property Committee. He is the President of the International Society for Molecular Recognition, and an active editorial board member of five industry journals.
Dr. Willson is a Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, and has been a member of Sigma Xi (the Scientific Research Society, to which members are nominated and elected based on research excellence) for more than 20 years. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
