Items we will cover in class on Thursday, Sept.1, 2005. We will begin by discussing potential projects people are thinking about working on over the course of the semester. Bring an idea or two that interest you to share with others. Like minded individuals may then comiserate about working together. I would like the class to divide into 8-10 groups, with 3-5 members in each group.
We will also discuss the first chapters in VA and DVE. Look for intersections in their discourse, where do these author feel visual anthro has come from and what do they propose visual anthropology accomplishes, if anything. In other words, why is Visual Anthropology important? why dothey write about it? and what do they want the reader to learn from their experience with it? Comments, critiques? Inform yourself further by going through the suggested readings as well.
